Postpartisanship
Postracial
Postfeminist
Can we just please do away with the post prefix??
It can't be just me. No matter what you read these days you are sure to encounter a trusty old old issue freshened up with the inclusion of the prefix 'post'. Article about Hillary, and postfeminism is sure to be written. Similarly with Obama, postracism or postracial will certainly make an appearance.
What is it with the media and their cloying insistence to 'word-up' away problems that have never gone away and certainly don't look to now. Ok, we finally have a black candidate. There is reason to be optimistic, but the over the top exuberance by many of the well-intentioned media is a self-serving pat on the back all but declaring the subject of the "post" all but over. One black presidential candidate by no means signals that we are entering a postracial anything! It means that we have finally pulled our collective heads out of our asses and nominated the best person irrespective of race or gender.
I look forward to the day when we truly achieve place where we are beyond racism, sexism and partisanship. But the candidacy of Barak Obama does not represent that day.
